INTERVIEW COMPLAINANT:
Upon arriving at the BP Station, I made contact
with ANTOINETTE CHRISTIAN, who goes by the first name TONI. She advised that she has been receiving some very strange phone
calls. TONI stated that she thinks she is being harassed by one of her neighbors. TONI advised that she has a couple of dogs
and in the past one of her neighbors, BYRON ELDRIDGE, has called the Animal Control Officer on her dogs barking. TONI
advised that most of the time the dogs are in the house except when she lets them go out to the bathroom. She stated
that she has no control over how much they bark while outside; however, she has been trying to keep them inside the house.
She believes that ELDRIDGE is the suspect in this complaint as he is the only one who has complained about the dogs in the
past. TONI stated ELDRIDGE is always watching her when she comes home and watches the dogs. She advised that the first
time this occurred was approximately the Sunday (01-29-06) before Super Bowl Sunday. TONI advised that she had received approximately
three phone calls on this day at different times. When she would answer the phone there was a pause and then all of the sudden
there would be barking over the phone, as if someone was barking at her. TONI stated that she is unsure if it was a tape recorded
message or if someone was actually doing the barking. When she tried to get the person's name or anything else all they
would do is bark and then hang-up. Again, TONI stated it happened approximately three times on 01-29-06.
TONI advised that she has had no other problems until
yesterday, 02-07-06. when she received two of the same type phone calls as stated before. When she answered the phone , someone
was barking on the phone again. TONI stated that she is tired of this and requested that I contact ELDRIDGE as she believes
he is the one making the harassing phone calls. I advised her that I would try and contact ELDRIDGE to see what he had to
say about this problem. She went on to advise that ELDRIDGE scares her and she is unsure of what he might do. She advised
that ELDRIDGE doesn't appear to get along with any other of the neighbors as well. She further stated that ELDRIDGE lives
just outside her backyard on the opposite corner of the block.
CONTACT SUSPECT:
I left the
BP station and traveled to 216 Channing Ave., Sagola, MI where I made contact with ELDRIDGE. Upon knocking on the residence
door, I heard noise and a short time later BYRON ELDRIDGE came to the door. I am familiar with him as I have had dealings with him in the past, (3). I advised ELDRIDGE that I needed to talk to him regarding a complaint. ELDRIDGE stated that he would speak with me and invited
me into the house.
INTERVIEW ELDRIDGE:
The interview took place in BYRON ELDRIDGE'S house. He was advised
that he was not under arrest, did not have to talk to me, and anytime he wanted me to leave I would do so. I asked ELDRIDGE
if he got along with all of his neighbors and he stated that he did; however, most of his neighbors did not get along with
him. When asked if he was having problems with any dogs in the area, he advised indeed he was. ELDRIDGE stated that the neighbor who
lives outside of his backyard by the name of CHRISTIAN always has barking dogs and would not keep them quiet. He stated that
he has called Animal Control several times and they told him that he would have to have other people complain in order for
them to do something about it. ELDRIDGE stated that he knows no one else would file a complaint. Without being asked questions
about the harassing telephone calls, ELDRIDGE stated that he had finally had enough of nothing being done and took care of
the matter himself. He stated that yesterday and sometime two weeks ago, he waited until she had let her dogs out and they
were barking, just after she let them back into the house, he called over to her house. Upon her answering the phone, he started
barking in the mouthpiece. He stated that he did not call her anything or yell at her all he did was bark in the phone.
When I asked him how many times this has happened, ELDRIDGE stated that he had called her approximately five times. He
stated three times a couple of weeks ago and twice yesterday. ELDRIDGE stated that he has had enough, can't stand it anymore
and just wanted something to be done.
I
advised ELDRIDGE that the reason I was at his residence was because of the phone calls he had made to CHRISTIAN. I advised
him that it was criminal to harass someone over the telephone. He stated that he did not know this. I then advised ELDRIDGE
that he would have to cease making telephone calls in this manner to the CHRISTIAN'S residence. I further advised him to recontact
the Animal Control Officer the next time he has problems with the dogs barking. ELDRIDGE advised that he cannot get any satisfaction
through the legal way and his calling her was the only way left. Again, I advised ELDRIDGE that he could not continue to harass
CHRISTIAN as it was illegal and he could have charges brought against him. ELDRIDGE stated, "Well I won't make any more
calls from this house, besides she would have to get records of the calls from this house in order to prove anything."
At this time, I advised ELDRIDGE that he had just admitted to me that he made the calls. ELDRIDGE stated,"Oh?" I
advised him that I would be leaving this complaint open and should CHRISTIAN receive any more harassing calls, I would
be sending this complaint to the prosecutor's office for issuance of a warrant for making harassing phone calls. I asked
ELDRIDGE if he could promise not to make any further telephone calls and he stated that he could not, (cont.,pg.6).
